Kiril – Who is Ivan Bauer?
Ivan – Ivan Bauer is someone who always wanted to know a little bit about everything. Always has been interested in different things, especially (besides his profession)) in: (Serbian) history, history of arts, (Greek) philosophy, literature… Sports were one of his biggest passions… Like ancinet Greeks used to say: Mens sana in corpore sano.
Kiril – What is the situation in Serbia these days, what happens?
Ivan – The situation is pretty much tensed, and getting more and more tensed every day, as elections approach. A lot of people are very displeased with the economic situation in Serbia and with political situation in Kosovo. So, it’s a tough time for Serbian citizens, but I’m sure we will find the way out of it, as we always did in our past…
Kiril – There´s elections near, how do you see the distribution of power?
Ivan – Well, as illogical as it seems, considering very complex both economic and political situation in Serbia, I’m sure that democratic forces will triumph once again. So I’m looking forward for the opportunity for Democratic Party, Social democratic party and Vojvodina’s League of Social democrats to take this country to its projected brighter future…
Kiril – Where will Serbia go after these elections, what is your position?
Ivan – Like I said, I hope we will go in the (only) right direction, which is the “European Union direction”. No nation in Europe has future outside European Union, so I see no reason why Serbia should be any different. To accomplish that we need to choose future over past, interest over emotions, better life over myths…
Kiril – How Bulgaria looks like in the eyes of the Serbs now in 2012?
Ivan – I’m very happy for and very proud of Bulgarian people for their accomplishments, especially their successful European path. I think that Serbia should look up to and learn from its “older brothers” (in their European seniority), Bulgaria and Romania and try to avoid their mistakes on that path…
Kiril – What is your opinion about Kosovo?
Ivan – Well, that is a question which bothers most of the Serbs. And, unfortunately, that’s the last thing we can do much about… So, I guess we should be smarter, more patient and let the time be the judge… Of course, it doesn’t mean we should not play active role in solving the problems. On the contrary, we should be very active; it’s just that we shouldn’t approach the problem with our hearts, but with our “little grey cells”…
Kiril – Do you see clearly a future entry of Serbia into the European Union?
Ivan – I certainly do. Otherwise, I would be the first to support other ideas that we can hear these days in Serbia – like Russia instead of European Union, for instance…
Kiril – Were quite successfully to deal with organized crime, in contrast to Bulgaria, what is the formula?
Ivan – I don’t think that we were that successful in our battle with organized crime, especially because that’s not a battle, it’s a never-ending war. And you (and we, too) should not forget that we lost one of our best Prime ministers ever in that battle. So, I hope you will be able to “finish” that war without such casualties…
Kiril – Have you ever seen, and if so, what do you think of the controversial movie directed by Angelina Jolie „In the land of blood and honey“?
Ivan – I haven’t had the opportunity to see it, thank God! But, from what I’ve heard it’s just one more movie in the array of Hollywood production “anti-Serb” movies. We should simply not pay attention to that, and it will, like everything else, pass. They will find (and they already have found) new “enemies” and bad guys and everybody will forget about how “bad” we Serbs are…
Kiril – Thank you for your cooperation mr. Bauer!
